Trial Admins

Procedure

We want to keep the process transparent and keep applicants in the loop about the state of their application. If an applicant is rejected at any stage of the process, make sure they are informed of it.

Application Stage

Standard admins are allowed to interact with applications in four different ways:

• They can ignore applications if they don’t want to review them at the moment.
• They can eartag an applicant for a later interview.
• They can motion to reject an application. This gets put up to a vote, and the applicant then gets informed about their rejection.
• They can bring a prospective applicant to an interview, assuming we are not full on trialmins.

We have a tremendous backlog of applications, with many good people. However, we are limited in resources from how many trial admins we can train at once. For this reason, many applications will sit around for months, until we have proper resources and time to interview them.

Trialmin Stage

When a trial admin is approved following their interview, they should be trained on the basic admin tooling and policy by a head admin.

Trial admins are only permitted to admin Moffstation when supervised by a regular or head admin.

Trial admins are not allowed to run admemes (see the admeme policy page for the exact definition) without permission from the current host.

Trial admins are initially placed into a 30-day period during which they are to shadow and be trained by the server’s existing admins. After the initial 30 days pass, a head admin should check in with the trial admin to see whether they have questions about admining, to give them feedback on how to further improve, and to assess whether they are ready to become a full admin.

If a head admin determines that a trial admin is ready to become a normal admin, they are given an all-encompassing test covering the rules, policy, tooling, ahelp handling, and admemes.

If they pass this test, a vote is convened with the rest of the admin team about whether they are ready. If the full team determines that they are ready, they become an admin.

If they are determined not to be ready at any point in this process, the 30-day period starts over, and they continue to be trained.

Dismissal of Trial Admins

In the case that a trial admin is determined to be unfit for the role of admin, they will be dismissed as a trial admin. Before this occurs, attempts should be made to reconcile and communicate about any issues they have. Only after it is determined without a doubt that they are not fit, or in the case of an egregious violation of rules and/or policy, should a trial admin be dismissed.
